Royal Typewriter 1936

Royal Typewriter 1936 is a custom serif typeface that digitizes the hammered engravings of a vintage Royal typewriting machine. Each character is designed to reflect the unique impressions made by the metal type hammers and ribbon pressure from the 1936 model. The typeface preserves the machine’s mechanical identity, translating it into a digital format while maintaining the authentic texture and depth of the original process.

Each character, number, and symbol was initially hammered into paper to capture unique impressions. These stamps were then digitized in Photoshop and Illustrator, converting the raw impressions into clean glyph shapes. The glyphs were further refined and compiled using font development software, where careful attention was given to kerning and spacing for a smooth and consistent experience.
